Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a form of lasering treatment that can provide facial rejuvenation. It is beneficial in terms of photorejuvenation treatment as it promotes collagen production and shrinks enlarged pores. It also has the added benefit of treating skin pigmentation. IPL photorejuvenation is used on damaged blood vessels, to treat rosacea, and to lighten dark spots.
SKIN IMPROVEMENT WITH PHOTOREJUVENATION
Photorejuvenation lightens brown spots, freckles, and broken blood vessels by going through the skin, destroying red blood cells and the dark substance found in freckles and dark spots. It restores collagen by warming dermal fibroblasts.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED
Between three and five are recommended with each treatment spaced about a month apart. You may need additional treatments if your skin is very red or damaged. Your skin will gradually look better after each treatment. The risks and discomfort associated with IPL are minimal. Photorejuvenation should be performed every six to twelve months to foster collagen production. It may take one to two treatments every twelve months to eradicate severe redness. Good skin care can keep skin looking its best with yearly sessions.
WHAT TO AVOID PRIOR TO TREATMENT
Do not use self-tanning products fourteen days to a month before a session and limit your sun exposure. Discuss your current medications with Dr. Schwarcz and he will inform you if you can readily undergo this treatment.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TREATMENT
Expect to have your eyes covered with protective eyewear and your face covered with a gel-like substance. Once Dr. Schwarcz, a board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeon, starts to glide the flat glass part of a hand-held laser device on your skin, minor stinging may be felt. After that, the face is cleansed and moisturizer is applied, along with a cold therapy bag if there’s a little swelling. A treatment lasts about 30 minutes depending on the area being treated.
IS THE TREATMENT PAINFUL
The majority of patients report that the IPL treatment is not paiinful and feels similar to a rubberband snap. Some patients can experience minor discomfort.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE TREATMENT
Redness will intensify for up to five days after the treatment of veins. Dark spots usually darken three days after treatment and for up to seven days. Scabbing may occur but should clear up in seven to ten days.
