Here’s the thing about facelifts: most people think they’ll look “done.” And we get it—the idea of a pulled, windblown face is hard to shake. But that’s not what we do here.

Modern facelift surgery is precise and totally customized to your face—and when done by a specialist like Dr. Robert Schwarcz, the results are so natural, people won’t know you’ve had anything done. They’ll just say you look great.

With offices on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and in Rye, NY, Dr. Schwarcz brings over two decades of experience to every facelift. His specialty? Making sure you still look like you—just more lifted, refreshed, and confident.

WHAT IS A FACELIFT?

A SMARTER, MORE NATURAL WAY TO LIFT YOUR FACE

A facelift (aka rhytidectomy) is a surgical way to reverse the effects of aging on the lower face and neck. That means softening deep wrinkles, lifting sagging cheeks, and restoring definition to the jawline.

But here’s the key: it’s not about pulling the skin tight. Dr. Schwarcz uses what’s called a deep-plane facelift technique. Instead of tugging on the surface, this method works beneath the muscle and fat layer to reposition facial structures where they used to be. It creates a more natural contour—no tightness, no tell-tale signs.

And because the deeper tissues are lifted, the skin lays naturally over the face, giving you a rested, youthful look that actually moves like real skin. It’s not about changing your face. It’s about bringing back the version of you that’s been hiding under gravity and time.

CANDIDATES

IS A FACELIFT RIGHT FOR YOU?

If you’re looking in the mirror and feeling like your reflection doesn’t match how you feel on the inside—you’re not alone.

Good candidates usually notice:

  • Jowling or sagging around the jawline

  • Deep creases around the nose and mouth

  • Loose skin or muscle banding in the neck

  • Loss of volume or facial shape

You don’t need to be “older” to consider a facelift—many patients are in their 40s and 50s and just want to get ahead of the aging curve. The main thing Dr. Schwarcz looks for is skin quality, overall health, and realistic expectations.

NOT CANDIDATES

WHEN IT MAKES SENSE TO WAIT (OR TRY SOMETHING ELSE)

If you’re just starting to see early signs of aging—think mild sagging, a little bit of laxity—non-surgical treatments might be your better bet (and yes, Dr. Schwarcz will tell you that honestly during your consult).

You might want to start with:

  • Fillers to add volume

  • Morpheus8 for tightening

  • Laser treatments to brighten and smooth

A full facelift is a commitment, so if you’re not quite ready, there are still effective ways to get subtle improvements without surgery.

PLANNING

WHAT HAPPENS IN A CONSULTATION

Dr. Schwarcz isn’t the type to rush anyone into surgery. Your consultation will be relaxed but thorough. He’ll examine your facial structure, ask what’s bothering you, and walk you through your options—whether that’s surgery or something less invasive.

You’ll also talk about your health history, recovery timeline, and what results are realistic for your face. This is where trust gets built. By the end of the visit, most patients say they feel relieved—like they’re finally in the right hands.

WHAT TO EXPECT

THE DAY OF YOUR SURGERY

Facelifts are done in Dr. Schwarcz’s JCAHO-certified surgical suite in Manhattan. You’ll arrive that morning, and depending on the scope of your surgery, you’ll be given either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.

The procedure usually takes 3–4 hours. You’ll be monitored throughout, and once you're ready to go home (or to a recovery suite if you’ve arranged one), you'll be sent with full aftercare instructions.

Dr. Schwarcz often combines facelifts with:

  • Neck lift (since the two areas age together)

  • Upper or lower eyelid surgery

  • Fat transfer to restore natural fullness

These combinations can take the results from great to incredible, all while keeping everything balanced and soft.

RECOVERY

REALISTIC DOWNTIME AND WHAT TO EXPECT

You’ll need about two weeks of true downtime. Swelling and bruising will show up in the first few days and start improving after the first week. Sutures come out around day 7. Most patients feel comfortable being out and about around the two-week mark.

Dr. Schwarcz sees you several times during recovery and adjusts care as needed. You won’t be left wondering what’s normal and what’s not—he’s hands-on and always accessible.

Bonus: Because the deep-plane method involves less trauma to the skin surface, recovery tends to be smoother and more comfortable than older techniques.

RESULTS

THIS IS WHAT NATURAL LOOKS LIKE

Once everything settles, you’ll notice your jawline is defined, your cheeks are lifted, and your face looks brighter and more youthful—without looking “different.”

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all procedure. It’s sculpted around your anatomy, and the results last for 10–15 years (sometimes longer). You’ll still age—but you’ll be aging from a more refreshed place.

ALTERNATIVE TREATMENTS

NOT QUITE READY? NO PROBLEM.

Not everyone needs surgery right away. Some popular alternatives include:

  • Filler to restore volume in key areas

  • Morpheus8 microneedling to tighten skin

  • Dysport to soften expression lines

Dr. Schwarcz uses these treatments conservatively to help patients get results without looking overdone—and sometimes they’re just the right step between “not yet” and “let’s do it.”

There are plenty of surgeons out there—but very few who’ve specialized in facial surgery for over two decades and still treat every face like a work of art.

Dr. Robert Schwarcz is a board-certified oculofacial plastic surgeon, which means he understands the face in ways most general plastic surgeons don’t. He performs every facelift himself—never handing off procedures to anyone else.

With offices on the Upper East Side and in Rye, NY, he makes sure your experience is personal, private, and focused on giving you the most natural result possible.
