SCAR REVISION + KELOID REMOVAL

Keloid, hypertrophic and acne scars can be unsightly and can sometimes cause discomfort. Keloids are scars that are caused by the skin’s overproduction of collagen that grow beyond the boundaries of the scar’s edge. Hypertrophic scars stay within the boundaries of the scar area, but can still be unsightly and restrict movement.

Keloids are typically benign but can become malignant if there is uncontrolled growth. It is important to check for signs of skin cancer. Generally, very large keloids should be surgically addressed. Other treatment includes laser treatment to reduce scar tissue and corticosteroid injections to reduce inflammation.

FACIAL SCAR REVISION

There are various techniques to repair facial scars. Yes, scars are permanent; however, scars can be made less noticeable through surgical procedures. Some scars or keloids can be injected with a specially formulated “cocktail” that Dr. Schwarcz uses which includes steroids to diminish the inflammatory reaction within the scar. Other extremely raised scars can be flattened with dermabrasion or various lasers.
