Scars and keloids could be unsightly and can
sometimes cause discomfort. Keloids are scars that
are caused by the skin’s overproduction of collagen
that grow beyond the boundaries of the scar edge.
Hypertrophic scars stay within the boundaries of the
scar area, but can still be unsightly and restrict
movement. There are various techniques to repair
scars, although they are permanent they can be
surgically made less noticeable. Some scars or keloids could be injected with a specially
formulated “cocktail” Dr. Schwarcz uses which
includes steroids to diminish the inflammatory
reaction within the scar. Other very raised scars
could be flattened with dermabrasion, or various
lasers.
