Everyone ages differently. Some loose fat, others
gain fat in the face, with regards to neck
rejuvenation, many of the tightening lasers do not
work. The goal of the surgery is to restore a more
youthful and defined neckline.
Surgical Options:
A fatty neck could be addressed with neck
liposuction alone if the skin elasticity is good. If
there are visible vertical bands the neck muscles
will need to be tightened. If the skin is loose or
in excess, an excision of the loose skin must be
performed behind the ear or even around the front
of the ear, but incision sites are well hidden.
Recovery:
Neck Lift surgery is performed on an outpatient
basis under local and/or MAC with oral or IV
sedation and usually takes 1 to 3 hours. Stitches if
any are removed in 7 to 10 days. Most patients
return to work after 1-2 weeks. An elastic “face
bra” must be worn at night for 2 weeks.
Doctor’s Ideology:
There are many ways to perform a neck lift, but the
surgery must fit the particular problem the patient
presents with. Age is not the determinant for when a
neck lift should be done, but rather a patient’s
bony anatomy, skin elasticity and soft tissue
volume. Liposuction could suffice alone or be done
in conjunction with tightening of the underlying
neck muscles, or excising redundant skin.
