The mid-face lift allows for a more youth fuller
look to the area where the inferior portion of the
lower eyelid meets the cheek junction. A sagging
mid-face would have a hollowed out concave region
where the lower eyelid meets the cheek. This may
lead to a deeper nasolabial fold where the trailing
edge of the mid-face has descended.
Access to the mid-face is achieved either through an
incision hidden on the inside of the lower eyelid,
or on the inside of the mouth where the upper row of
teeth meet the inside of the lip. The incision could
also be made in the hair bearing area of the temple
and accessed endoscopically via a small camera.
Often times a cheek implant, tear trough implant, or
fat injections are placed in the area of the
mid-face to add volume to the area lifted. The
surgery is performed under local anesthesia with
sedation, with swelling lasting about a week.
This surgery could be performed as an initial
cosmetic procedure, or as a reconstructive surgery
to correct an underlying problem from previous
surgery such as trauma or even thyroid disease.
